Year-Round Activities & Events

Catamount is available all seasons of the year for guests and the general public to use and enjoy for a variety of purposes.  Some events and activities are organized as part of commuity festivals and others are hosted by guests for families, friends, businesses, and organizations.  Guests use the Lodge for a variety of family events including weddings and for meetings and retreats, training sessions, class reunions, and more.

Winterfest

The Town of Colton's annual Winterfest is held the last weekend of January.  Visitors snowshoe forest trails, tour the Lodge, and view quilts on display during the quilt show.

Guided Walks

In conjunction with the New York Forest Owners Association and other organizations the owners host Woods Walks and other forest-related activities for members as well as the general public.  Guided walks help visitors understand the forest and how it is being managed for a variety of benefits.

Family Gatherings

Family reunions and other gatherings give people time to be together, go on picnics, play games indoors and out, hike trails, and more.  Hikers use trails to get to the top of Catamount Mountain and paddlers access Carry Falls Reservoir for kayaking and canoeing.

Nature-Inspired Art

Lodge guests and other visitors are often inspired to capture the natural world through photography, quilting, drawing, writing, and other creative pursuits.  Commissioned wall quilts, for instance, permanently on display in Catamount Lodge were made by local quilter Patty Blickwedehl.  Her work reflects the artistic talents and continuing strength of quilting in the region.
